FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

League of Women Voters of Wake County Welcomes New Officers & Board Members

RALEIGH, NC, June 9, 2021 – The League of Women Voters of Wake County voted in a new slate of officers at our annual year-in-review meeting. Cheryl Tung becomes the new president as Dianna Wynn’s term comes to an end. New members of the LWV-Wake Board of Directors include at-large members Retta Riordan and Candace Blackley. Continuing Board members include treasurer Elaine Okal, secretary Laurel Voelker, Voter Services director Marian Lewin, at-large member Dale Cousins, and communications director Jenny Kotora-Lynch. LWV-Wake members who continue to serve on the board of LWVNC are First Vice President Marian Lewin, treasurer Mary Thompson, and at-large member Phyllis Demko. They are joined at the state League this year by at-large member Mike Jennings.

Incoming President Cheryl Tung observes, “We are grateful for Dianna's leadership over the past two years. With our new slate of leaders, we will continue to serve citizens of Wake County by providing voter education tools and programs that advance civic engagement."

We wish to thank Dianna Wynn for her two years as president. Under her guidance, LWV-Wake membership and impact continued to grow despite the pandemic. She leaves the League in good shape for our continued work of defending democracy and empowering voters. In Dianna’s words, “The League of Women Voters has been a nonpartisan voice on important political issues as well as a trusted source of election information for over 100 years. I am honored to have served as LWV-Wake's president." Likewise, we thank departing Board member Diane Pyun for her service.

The League of Women Voters of Wake County is a grassroots nonpartisan organization dedicated to encouraging citizens’ participation in government and to the understanding of important issues through education and advocacy. The League of Women Voters neither endorses nor opposes political parties or candidates. Learn more at www.lwvwake.org.
