Vote 411 image for newsletter

Dear ~~first_name~~,

Greetings from LWV-Wake.

Early voting has begun in Wake County! There are many LWV-Wake members working at the polls, voting early and distributing door hangers this week to encourage Wake County voters to get out and vote.

All members who have LWV/VOTE411 t-shirts: Please wear your t-shirts while you are out and about to remind folks about the importance of voting. Also, we'd love to see your selfies, with a note of where you are wearing your t-shirts. Send pics to
communications@lwvwake.org for use on our website, social media pages and future newsletters.

LWV-Wake Cary Town Council Candidate Forum - Video now available
If you were not able to attend the Cary Town Council candidate forum on April 24th, Christ the King Lutheran Church did an amazing job recording it. Ways to Get Involved with the League

GOTV Door Hanger Project
Door hangers are still available for members interested in distributing them in Cary ahead of the May 17th municipal election. Our goal is to go door-to-door to distribute nearly 2,000 door hangers to registered voters in Cary. Voter Services projects like this are the core of our mission and where we need the most volunteers. This is a fun way to enjoy the outdoors while helping the LWV-Wake carry out our mission by empowering voters! If you can help, please contact Ali Mabel

DEI Roundtable: May 10th, 5:30pm - Racism in the Media- Registration Open
For any member who has not yet attended a DEI Roundtable, I encourage you to attend one of these sessions. These are great opportunities to discuss DEI issues and learn from others. Break-out rooms are frequently used for more intimate discussions and are a great way to meet other Leaguers! Join the discussion about ways media is used as a source of racial prejudice, its impact and how the media and entertainment industry are working to address systemic racism. Our program leaders do an excellent job of researching educational materials for these events. Please support the League's work and participate. For more information and to register, scroll down to events.

June DEI image newsletter
Best Babies June event newsletter
  • May 10th 5:00pm-6:30pm - DEI Roundtable - Racism in the Media - The notion of race is a social construct that has often been used to justify systems of domination and exploitation. Despite all efforts to deconstruct the racial prejudices inherited from the slave trade and colonial era, these representations continue to permeate political and even academic discourse, cultural expressions, and popular imagery. DEI’s Racism in the Media May Round Table discussion will focus on how these representations continue to be used as a source of racial prejudice, the impact of racism, and the persistence of racial biases in contemporary societies. We'll explore where things are improving and where we still have a lot of work to do. Register here.
  • May 14th 10:30-12noon - Timely Topics Brainstorming/Planning for 2022-2023 - ANY member interested in assisting with the selection of speakers for the League's upcoming Timely Topics program is encouraged to attend. You do not need to be a member of the Timely Topics committee.  Meeting will be held at the League office and light breakfast pastries will be provided. For more information and to register, click here.
  • May 19th 2:00pm-3:00pm - League Lit Raleigh - Will discuss The Heartbeat of Wounded Knee by David Truer. From Amazon: "The received idea of Native American history has been that American Indian history essentially ended with the 1890 massacre at Wounded Knee. Not only did one hundred fifty Sioux die at the hands of the U.S. Cavalry, the sense was, that Native civilization did as well. In his book, Treuer melds history with reportage and memoir. Tracing the (Sioux) tribes' distinctive cultures from first contact, he explores how the depredations of each era spawned new modes of survival". Register here.
  • June 14th 12pm - Disparities in Black Maternal and Child Health - Presentation on Wake County’s Best Babies Zone - Please join the LWV-Wake Healthcare and Women's Rights Committees for a special program about Disparities in Black Maternal and Child Health and how Wake County's Best Babies Zone Program is working to address infant mortality and health disparities, particularly in Southeast Raleigh. Guest speaker is Dauline M. Singletary,  Public Health Educator in Maternal and Child Health with Wake County Health and Human Services who leads the Best Babies Zone. Register here.
