Holiday 2022 Image

Dear ~~first_name~~,

Greetings from LWV-Wake.

With the 2022 election season (almost) complete, LWV-Wake wishes to thank all of our members who served as poll workers on Election Day and during early voting, helped with tabling activities to GOTV, voter registration, assisted with candidate forums and observed the Board of Election canvass for the past few weeks. We are grateful for each and every one of you!

Because of the dedication of our member volunteers, we reached thousands of voters this election season, providing not only election information, such as candidate info and polling locations, but also information about election security and the ballot process. We are truly fulfilling our mission of Educating Voters & Defending Democracy!

The 2022 Election Day will officially be complete when the NC State Board of Elections meets to complete the canvass of the 2022 general election tomorrow at 11am. Details can be found here.

Giving Tuesday is TOMORROW November 29th
Our annual end-of-year fundraiser is going on now! As you make your end-of-year charity contributions, we hope you consider supporting LWV of Wake County. We count on support from our members and the community to help pay for GOTV projects and programs. Please scroll down to learn more about the Youth Engagement program we hope to kickstart in the new year!

LWV-Wake Member Meetup - November 30th 2-4pm
The Membership Committee invites LWV-Wake members for an information drop-in at the Garden Bar at Atlantic Garden Center. Please scroll down to the Upcoming Events section to learn more about this social event.

Executive Service Corps to provide LWV-Wake with Guided Organizational Assessment
During the next 3 months, LWV-Wake will undergo a Guided Organizational Assessment by Executive Service Corps of the Greater Triangle. LWV-Wake was awarded a capacity-building grant from ESC in October. As part of the grant requirement, LWV-Wake board members must complete ESC's Leadership Boot Camp series as well as assist ESC advisors with the GOA. Board members Laurel Voelker, Elaine Okal, Retta Riordan and Cheryl Tung have been attending bi-weekly boot camp sessions since August and will complete the training program in December. The GOA is an analysis of our organization's processes, work environment, and structure and will be used, along with our strategic plan, to guide us as we look for ways to further engage our members and ensure organizational stability.

Giving Tuesday is TOMORROW!

Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving, is returning November 29th. Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. LWV-Wake has participated in Giving Tuesday since 2019, and in 2021, we raised over $4000 to help LWV-Wake carry out our mission of Educating Voters and Defending Democracy.

This year, we are reaching out to membership and beyond to ask again for your support as we work to fulfill our strategic priority of increasing the diversity of the League. To ensure our League continues to grow and creates a pipeline of younger volunteers, we are creating a Youth Engagement Program.

We've spent the past year, researching other Leagues' Youth Engagement programs and sought feedback from youth activists at ECU to determine what would motivate high-school and college students to join LWV-Wake. However, we need funds to help develop these outreach programs. Please support us!  Click on the link below to donate now.

LWV-Wake releases Local Redistricting video
A year after receiving a mini-grant from Southern Leadership for Voter Engagement (SOLVE) and an additional grant from LWVNC, we have completed a short video about local redistricting. The goal of the 4-1/2 minute video, which is also available in Spanish on LWV-Wake's Youtube channel, is to educate citizens on the redistricting process and why it's important to get involved to ensure a fair and transparent process.

The video highlights local governments across North Carolina so that it can be used by other local Leagues across the state. We hope our members will find it helpful and share it with friends and other organizations. With the possibility of another round of local redistricting for Raleigh City Council, this video will be an important tool to promote citizen participation. In addition to our Youtube channel, the videos will also be part of our future Civics Education web page.

We wish to thank our coalition partners at South Coalition for Social Justice and to the LWVNC board for making these grants available.
