About this event
League members will visit the historic Oberlin Village and meet for lunch after at La Carretta.
The tour is a short walk around historic Oberlin Village with information about the history, biographies, challenges, and values of residents and descendants.
Historic Oberlin Village is one of the last known surviving free and freedmen's villages in the state of North Carolina that grew out of an antebellum Free Black settlement. The tour includes stops at three restored houses, Oberlin Rising, the parklet established to commemorate the community that created Historic Oberlin Village, the site of the former Latta University, and ends at Wilson Temple United Methodist Church.
We will meet at the kiosk at the Oberlin Cemetery behind the Interact Building, 1014 Oberlin Road.
For those who are interested, afterwards we will gather at La Carreta Mexican Restaurant a short walk on Oberlin Road. Be sure to sign up if you want a lunch reservation.
