Voter Empowerment

  • Vote411.org: Providing a one-stop resource for non-partisan candidate and election information attracting more than 95,000 people.


  • Candidate ForumsSponsoring events for voters to engage with candidates running for state and local offices.


  • Voter Registration: Registering new citizens to vote during naturalization ceremonies for new US citizens.


  • Voter Protections: Advocating against voter suppression legislation and participating in lawsuits to make it easier to cast a ballot.


  • Expanding Voting: Advocating for expanded early voting sites and hours providing more Wake County citizens more opportunities to vote.

Diversity, equity and inclusion are central to the League’s current and future success in engaging individuals households, communities and policy makers in creating a more perfect democracy. We advocate and educate our members and community by:


  • Offering essays, videos and monthly discussions on DEI issues.
  • Continuing to work towards creating a more diverse and inclusive membership.


Promoting Citizen Engagement


LWVWake actively encourages our members and citizens to advocate for and contribute to policy debates and legal proceedings that align with our mission and work to benefit all citizens of our community. To this end, the League provides:



  • Educational tools necessary for informed and effective advocacy and,
  • Position statements on a variety of issues that align with those of LWVUS.

Defending Democracy

 

Redistricting:

Working to end the gerrymandering of voting districts in North Carolina, LWVWake advocates for fair redistricting practices to ensure transparency and fairness in the redistricting process. We also provide educational resources and tools on our website to better understand and become engaged in the redistricting process.

 


Election Security & Modernization: Advocating for the adoption of established cybersecurity best practices and technology improvements to increase accuracy in voter rolls and advocating for hand-marked, verifiable paper ballots. 


 

Observer Corps

LWVWake monitors government meetings at the state, county and local level throughout Wake County to ensure that citizens are aware of the decisions that impact their lives, and to ensure that the meetings are conducted in an open and transparent way.
