To All LWV-Wake members:
I write as the current (soon to be outgoing) Chair of the Timely Topics Committee in an attempt to assist the Nominating Committee with identifying leadership for this League staple.
Prior to the pandemic, our monthly attendance numbers were approaching 75-80 folks per session. We changed locations for the monthly gathering based on those rising numbers. We lost momentum with the pandemic, first going to all zoom sessions and then a combination of zoom and in-person gatherings for 2023-24. We have not recovered our pre-pandemic attendance numbers, to date although membership numbers are strong.
I seek suggestions on how to improve our member interest in these educational sessions and would like to pass these suggestions along to new leadership as planning for 2024-25 begins. In the past, during the summer months, there has been a focus group of committee chairs and interested individuals to identify potential topics and speakers for the upcoming year. Your suggestions for change would become a part of this discussion.
I think we would all regret setting Timely Topics at pause due to a perceived lack of interest so getting feedback about this is very important. Also, if you enjoy planning events and hosting speakers with issues of relevance in our community, this may be the opportunity for you to take a leadership role in the League.
Please send your ideas and hopefully, your willingness to help, to me via email (dalenbill@gmail.com). I will share with the Board and with the Nominating Committee. Thanks, in advance, to all!
