Dear ~~first_name~~,
Happy Memorial Day from LWV of Wake County. Today we honor all who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country, and those who have and are currently serving in our armed forces. We thank you for your service!
As we get together with friends, hit the pool, grill and chill, please take a pause and remember that democratic freedoms, including the right to vote, must be provided to all citizens in our country. In addition, they must be protected. This IS the work of League of Women Voters.
These freedoms extend to free and fair elections. A small but loud minority is seeking to undermind them, in order to give the false perception that our elections are not secure. Last week, the U.S. House Administration Committee held a hearing “American Confidence in Elections: Preventing Noncitizen Voting and Other Foreign Interference.” During this hearing, mis and disinformation was presented, with little to no evidence. You can read the LWVUS statement here. You can view the hearing here.
LWV-Wake and Leagues across our state and country work to combat these false narratives by actively observing County and State Boards of Elections, advocating for and promoting post-election audit results, and serving as poll workers.
We also routinely share NCBOE information related to election security on social media and at voter outreach events. We encourage all members to get involved in promoting the integrity of our elections by NOT engaging or repeating mis- and disinformation and sharing information from the NC State Board of Elections. Learn more about the security of NC elections here.
