Terry Bradley Dunn — Showing Up, Bringing Others Along
The League of Women Voters of Wake County is proud to spotlight Terry Bradley Dunn, a lifelong advocate for civic engagement, women’s leadership, and informed participation in democracy. Terry’s personal and professional journey closely reflects the League’s mission to empower voters and defend democracy through education and advocacy.
Terry’s commitment to civic action began early. As a high school student, she participated in voter registration drives, and in college, as a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, she became deeply engaged in social action and political awareness. She draws inspiration from the sorority’s founders who bravely marched in the 1913 Woman Suffrage Procession in Washington, DC—despite segregation, hostility, and real danger. Their courage reinforced for Terry a lifelong belief in showing up and working collectively to create change.
That belief continues to guide her work today. After more than 20 years in human resources, Terry founded Tai-Lynn HR Solutions in 2019 to provide high-quality HR expertise to small and mid-sized organizations that often lack access to those resources. Her professional leadership is closely tied to her advocacy, strengthening organizations while promoting ethical decision-making and good governance.
Terry’s values align strongly with the League of Women Voters. As she explains:
“I chose to join the League of Women Voters of Wake County as a purposeful way to channel my concern for our community and our nation into informed, nonpartisan action that strengthens our democracy. The League’s commitment to informed participation, public policy education, and advocacy mirrors my own dedication to civic engagement. Its mission—Empowering Voters. Defending Democracy is a constant reminder of why this work matters. The League’s national reach, combined with its strong local impact, inspired me to lend my time and my voice. I’m proud to be part of that effort.”
As the Chair for Voter Services, Terry will bring her widely recognized leadership and advocacy, to LWVWake. Terry continues to emphasize that engagement looks different for everyone—whether learning the issues, participating in discussions, or encouraging others to take part. What matters most is informed action.
Perhaps most inspiring is Terry’s commitment to “bringing others along.” Through mentorship, encouragement, and example, she embodies the League’s grassroots spirit and reminds us that democracy is strongest when people show up together.
We are grateful for members like Terry Bradley Dunn, whose dedication strengthens our community and affirms that informed, collective action truly makes a difference.
| | Building Civic Power: A Roadmap for Advancing Civics Education in North Carolina
Join us on ZOOM for a panel discussion exploring the current state of civics education in North Carolina and why strong, nonpartisan civic learning is essential to a healthy democracy. This session will provide background, research, and context to help members of the public better understand the landscape of civics education and its impact on civic participation.
Drawing on the work of the North Carolina Civics Coalition and Generation Nation, as well as insights from the series Civics Unlearned by Sara Michael of Carolina Public Press, the session will examine how gaps in civics education — driven by limited instructional time, competing academic priorities, and increasing polarization — affect students’ understanding of government and civic life. Participants will gain a clearer picture of how statewide collaboration and community-based efforts can help build informed, engaged citizens and strengthen civic power across North Carolina.

| | Are you concerned about getting out the vote for the fall elections? Efforts are underway to make it more difficult for US citizens to register to vote, to know where to vote, to vote early, or to vote by mail. These voter suppression tactics are occurring at the federal and state level here in NC and disproportionately affect communities of color, married women, and those that have been affected by natural disasters.

To assure that every vote for President counts in every election, we urge the North Carolina Legislature to pass the National Popular Vote Bill, moving our state and the nation closer to making every vote count in all of America.
There are more than 500,000 elected offices in the United States. For all but one of them, the candidate with the most votes wins. The one exception is our one national office – the presidency. To sustain a healthy democracy every vote for president should count equally. Count all the votes, every vote equal, whoever receives the most votes wins – this is simple and fair.

Add your public comment by March 16th.
League of Women Voters of North Carolina has joined with Southern Coalition for Social Justice, Common Cause NC, and the Fair Elections Center to submit public comment to the North Carolina State Board of Elections raising concerns about proposed rules governing voter roll maintenance and the use of the federal SAVE database to verify citizenship. While supporting accurate voter lists, the coalition warned that reliance on error-prone data, vague standards, and insufficient safeguards could result in eligible voters being wrongly challenged or removed. The letter urges stronger protections, clearer due process, and safeguards against improper removals—especially close to elections—and encourages members to submit their own comments before the March 16 deadline. | | Action Alert: Tell Congress Federal Immigration Enforcement Has Gone Too Far
We join LWVUS and LWVNC in this ACTION ALERT regarding escalating federal immigration enforcement actions that violate constitutional rights and undermine democratic accountability.
At its core, this issue is not about immigration policy—it is about the protection of constitutional rights, the rule of law, and the principle that no government agency is above accountability. The use of intimidation, surveillance, and lethal force against people exercising their First Amendment rights threatens the foundations of our democracy and demands congressional oversight.
The League has a long history of defending civil liberties and civic participation. When constitutional rights are eroded anywhere, they are weakened everywhere.
Add your voice by using the LWVUS action tool to contact Congress and demand transparency, investigation, and accountability.
