Defending Democracy
Our Mission
The League of Women Voters of Wake County is a grassroots, nonpartisan organization committed to empowering voters and defending democracy. To those ends the League:
Encourages informed and active participation in government.
Increases understanding of major public policy issues.
Influences public policy through education and advocacy.
While the League of Women Voters is nonpartisan, it is
not
neutral on many important national, state and local issues. Learn more about LWVUS positions, LWVNC positions, and LWVWake positions on issues.
Nonpartisan Policy
The League of Women Voters does not support or oppose political parties or candidates for office. Any use of the League of Women Voters’ name or logo in campaign advertising or literature is prohibited.
What We Do
The League of Women Voters of Wake County is an all-volunteer organization guided by a set of core values. Member volunteers operate all aspects of the organization. Members choose how active they are according to their personal interests and time. The following are just a few ways in which members can get involved.
Promote Election Participation
Organize candidate forums.
Develop voter guides.
Participate in get-out-the-vote projects.
Register voters.
Participate in League Decision Making
Join an
existing committee
to work on important public policy issues.
Help plan important League
events
.
Propose and lead a new project or committee. Attend LWV-Wake’s Annual Meeting for members.
Engage In Advocacy
Contact elected officials regarding a local or state issue.
Write letters to the editor in support of League positions.
Observe public government meetings a part of our Observer Corps.
Respond to action alerts from the League.
Stay Informed
Attend our lectures by experts on issues.
Research an issue within a League committee.
