Education

We believe a flourishing democracy requires educated citizens who can achieve their full potential in a fair and prosperous society.

The Education Committee works in support of high-quality public education in Wake County, North Carolina. The education system must be accessible and responsive to the needs of all children.  We believe that adequate and equitable public funding is essential to provide quality education for all.

Our committee studies the issues, informs voters on policy implications and advocates on behalf of public education. We invite members interested in these activities to join our action team.

Timely Topics: NC's Leandro Case
Our Committee Focus in 2024
  • Educate voters prior to the upcoming elections on:
    • Enrollment and student characteristics in different types of schools.
    • Funding sources—how are tax dollars distributed both in Wake County and across the state?
    • Accountability measures for student outcomes—are our schools preparing students for the future economic and social well-being of North Carolina communities?

  • Observe the government bodies that oversee and administer pre-K to 12 education. Attend their public meetings on a regular basis—including the Wake County school board and General Assembly committees who set state laws and funding for education. Give public comment when appropriate.

By keeping watch on the government in action, citizen observations protect and strengthen our right to know. They ensure that government is aware of interest in and support for public education efforts conducted on our behalf.
