KEYNOTE SPEAKER

CARLY P. JONES

Raleigh native, Carly P. Jones, is the new CEO of Artspace and a performing artist and cultural arts leader with experience in arts equity, community programming, and cross-cultural engagement. As a cultural arts leader, she has worked for several Triangle-based arts nonprofit organizations and cultural arts institutions where she has centered her work on ways to make the arts more inclusive and accessible across socio-economic boundaries for all communities and artists. Recently, she was chosen to be a part of the inaugural cohort of the South Arts Emerging Leaders of Color program bringing together BIPOC arts leaders working across the South to explore inclusivity and cultural democracy across the arts field.

Jones attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and received her degrees in vocal performance, Black music history, and arts administration. An artist all her life, she has also kept her creative work rooted in her personal life and has enjoyed a regional performing arts career as a singer and theatre artist. When on stage, she most enjoys storytelling through new works with playwrights and musicians that uplift stories of those that have traditionally been silenced and surrounding current community issues. Jones has worked to uplift social justice issues through her community work over the years as a lead community organizer of The Women's March on Raleigh, the Co-Director of New Leader’s Council of North Carolina, and her work with various community change-making organizations throughout the Triangle. Jones believes the most powerful work is when art and activism are fused together as a community engagement tool to bridge divisions and shed light on community issues.

THE VENUE- DIX CHAPEL

The Greg Poole, Jr. All Faiths Chapel at Dix Park serves as the park's welcome and event center.

The chapel was built in 1955 and renovated in 2020 and reflects the mid-century modern architecture with decorative wood elements, a rose stained-glass window, terrazzo floors, and mid-century stainless fixtures.
