Healthcare and Women's Rights Committees Sponsor Best Babies Zone Initiative
Were you aware that African American babies in Wake County are four times more likely than white babies to die within their first year of life? And were you aware that those rates are even higher in Southeast Raleigh?

To address these inequities, Wake County launched a
Best Babies Zone (BBZ) Initiative. The approach of the BBZ is a place-based, multi-sector, community-driven effort to reduce racial inequities in infant mortality and birth outcomes. It mobilizes community residents and organizational partners to address the social, structural, and economic determinants of health and to promote health equity.
The
League of Women Voters of Wake County is a partner with Wake County to help promote the BBZ initiative and help to reduce the rate of infant mortality and racial inequities.
